Al menos un hombre ha muerto y una treintena de personas han resultado heridas a causa de un terremoto de magnitud 6.1 e intensidad «destructiva» que ha provocado el colapso de 16 edificios en el distrito de Sindirgi, en la provincia turca de Balikesir, en el oeste del país.

Por su parte, el alcalde de Balikesir, Ahmet Akin, ha dado sus condolencias a la familia de la víctima y deseado una pronta recuperación a los heridos a través de su cuenta en la red social X, donde también ha informado del despliegue de vehículos con bebidas y alimentos y de la apertura de una cafetería para asistir a los afectados.
El seísmo fue registrado a las 19.53 (hora local) a unos 11 kilómetros de profundidad y ha llegado a sacudir ligeramente Estambul. Desde entonces, la Agencia para la Gestión de Desastres y Emergencias de Turquía (AFAD) ha registrado en menos de dos horas hasta 41 réplicas de magnitudes entre 2.2 y 4.6, según un informe preliminar al que ha tenido acceso el diario turco ‘Oksijen’ y que califica la intensidad del terremoto como «destructiva».
