Especialistas observaron un ligero aumento en la actividad del volcán Chichonal, ubicado en la región noroeste de Chiapas, entre el 6 de junio y el 21 de agosto, reportó la Coordinación Nacional de Protección Civil (CNPC).
Para dar seguimiento a esa actividad sísmica, indicó en un comunicado, personal de la CNPC y del Centro Nacional de Prevención de Desastres (Cenapred), en coordinación con las secretarías de Protección Civil de Chiapas y Tabasco, instalarán desde hoy un Puesto de Mando para reforzar las acciones preventivas y mantener oportunamente informada a la población.
«Actualmente, el volcán no representa un riesgo mayor para la población. La vigilancia científica es continua y cualquier cambio será informado de inmediato por los canales oficiales», remarcó.
Para cuidar a los pobladores y a quienes visitan la zona, señaló, se implementaron diversas medidas, que incluyen restringir el ingreso al cráter y el monitoreo reforzado las 24 horas por especialistas del Servicio Sismológico Nacional (SSN), de la Universidad de Ciencias y Artes de Chiapas (UNICACH) y del Centro Nacional de Prevención de Desastres.
El Comité Científico Asesor, agregó, se mantiene en sesión permanente y se implementa una campaña de difusión constante a visitantes y comunidades cercanas sobre las medidas preventivas.
Desde 2021, destacó, la CNPC y la Secretaría de Protección Civil estatal cuentan con un Plan Operativo que incluye zonas de riesgo identificadas en el mapa de peligros volcánicos, rutas de evacuación establecidas y refugios temporales listos para activarse de ser necesario.
El volcán Chichonal registró una erupción el 28 de marzo de 1982, afectando a más de 20 mil personas en la región zoque de Chiapas y causando la muerte de alrededor de 2 mil.
